Did you miss me?

So did ya miss me? Probably not, because I didn’t even miss myself! Meaning, I did not miss being on social media AT ALL and after the first couple of weeks, I honestly forgot Instagram, Facebook and all the other social platforms even existed. A friend of mine reached out today and asked me how I enjoyed my 12 week hiatus from the notorious duck face selfies, political rants and raves, and the millions of baby pictures that had seemed to take over my newsfeed. My response, “It was the best 12 weeks of my life!” and it truly was.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I felt a serious disconnect, mentioned in my previous post, Au Revoir Betches. I was pretty sure this disconnect would have disappeared as time rolled on and weeks went by. However, that was not the case and after being back on social media, all I felt like I was doing was “catching up.” Which led me to step back and ask myself, “what exactly am I catching up on!!??” Past events? People’s lives? It is all in the past, so what does it matter? It doesn’t.

The main reason I decided to get back online, was for two reasons. I wanted to start promoting my blog and I felt I was missing the online connections I had with friends and family I wasn’t able to see as often. As mentioned in my previous post, I concluded with the realization I needed to cut some people from news feeds and I have slowly started to do that. I want to start fresh and build connections with people who will support me, support my blog and inspire me to always do better and want more. Personally, I do not care about seeing posts bashing our President or posts reporting the latest school shooting. I know is sounds ignorant, but I want to have a place where I can turn to, to escape the hatred, violence, and escape the devastation society has created both online and off.

I want to share with you, one of my many New Year’s resolutions: to change my perspective on life. I need to start looking at life where the glass is half full, not half empty. For almost 13 years now, I have viewed pretty much everything with a glass half empty outlook. If something good happened, I anticipated something bad to follow.  It was an awful way to look at life and has led to some pretty dark times. But now, as I wrap up my last 4 months of being 31, I want to make a change. Actually, I take that back, I need to make a change.

While I may be back on social media, back “liking” your 39 different photos of your child or complimenting on your lifetime achievements you’ve share, I will not allow the negativity to encompass my life and my news feed. I also will continue to live in the moment and resist the temptation to whip out my phone the next time I am bored or just because it is “habit.”  As I end this post, I will ask you one question that someone asked me and I was excited to answer, “yesterday.” To all my supporters and friends, I ask you this, “When is the last time you were able to sit through a movie or a TV show without looking at your phone?” Peace & Love xo

I decided about two or three weeks ago to take a break from social media all together. Not only did I delete all social media apps on my phone and iPad, but I also disabled the accounts so I was not tempted to “accidently” sign back in. I made this decision after becoming extremely overwhelmed […]
