no excuses

I will be the first to admit, and then my parents second to confirm, that I have an unfiltered mouth with a hint of sass.  I was lucky enough to be able to grow up in a family where feelings were expressed, emotions displayed and truth expressed throughout all the walls of our house. My parents wanted to know what was going on with their children and they wanted us to be comfortable enough to feel like we could always talk to them… about anything. Now, this by no means meant that I could go dropping F bombs or shouting the occasional “asshole” comment here and there, I had respect for my parents and when respect was earned, it was also given.

When I think back, it wasn’t until I went off to college and started to live alone that my foul language and my unfilteredness started to slip. I found myself cursing more, having more attitude in my tone and by the time I was done with college, my mouth was basically a loose cannon. And I think this applies to everyone around my age. We go through this transition period were we are still kind of figuring out who we are. We aren’t sure who we are and at the same time there is all this pressure to develop our place in the world and figure out where we are going. It’s called life and it never really stops teaching us. That small but important detail was the first thing I finally realized after a while: we are continuously learning. This is just the beginning and I am not going to learn it all in one day or one week or even one year. It’s an on-going process that just never stops, and to be honest we never get the full life lesson until it’s usually too late or we are too old.

One of the biggest life lessons I have learned, and it took me a while to learn was that sometimes it’s best to keep my mouth shut. I have a lot to say. Duh, I have my own blog page. But there is a place and time for where I say what I need to say, kind of like when I was living with my parents. There was a proper time and place to get angry and upset with a decision my parents made and express my emotions.  It isn’t whenever I want it to be like when I was in college. Similar to live living with my parents, I now have co-workers, bosses, employees, friends, family, little ones, that all look to me as an individual and evaluate me each day. Think about it, each day we walk into these peoples lives only to be evaluated. They look at how we dress, how we act, and how we speak.  How we speak. Take a minute and think about that. How we speak to others is how we get treated in return. How we speak to new people, is how they define us, and how we speak to those who know us, is how we define our relationships. All of these things, lead to how we are in the future. Are we going to be the ones they turn to when they need advice, help, or just someone to talk to? Or are we the ones they would never even consider approaching? People are big influencers of who we become, that is a given, and I find the more that we sit back and listen  better we are prepared for the future. So take advice when advice is given, sit back and become the fly on the wall. Sometimes you will be amazed at how much you can really learn once you finally open your ears xo9d5637_639cb3f945de4a58bc9ab35c6e28e398.png_srb_p_547_547_75_22_0.50_1.20_0.00_png_srbthe

Ok, I get it. It has been over a week since I blogged last and I really do not have an excuse this time. To be quiet honest, most nights I have come home and just wanted to watch TV, read a book and go to bed. It has been really cold this past week, […]
