In honor of Woman Crush Wednesday, I recently started HBO’s popular series, Game of Thrones and found it more than appropriate to honor my beautiful Khaleesi, played by Emilia Clarke. Even though I am only just wrapping up Season 2, and no where close to knowing where the story takes Khaleesi, she is by far, my favorite character and my newest girl crush.

There are so many things that I admire about the character that Clarke plays. Khaleesi was put into a life that was determined not by herself, but by her selfish brother, looking to reconquer his throne. She accepted the life that her dumb witted brother chose for her and began to see the bigger picture and she continues to surprise me each and every episode. I admire her so much because she is so determined, fearless, and strong. I think she puts a lot of inspiration into all women who watch the show. During a time where women were only good for bearing children, Khaleesi breaks the mold of these stereotypical characteristics and decides to become something better, never doubting herself along the way. She knows she is beautiful and uses that to her advantage. Her beauty gets her what she wants, but she is tactful in the way she uses was she gets.

I was listening to a talk show on SirusXM, and the host was commenting on a tweet that Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank posted the other week in regards to women. The tweet wrote as follows:

I find running a #business in a man’s world to be a huge advantage. I wear bright colors, yank up my skirt & get attention

Corcoran received a lot of negative criticism from the tweet and the commentator on the SirusXM station was defending her saying, “Look, we all know what she really meant and I mean come on, look at the era she grew up in and look at how successful she became. It wasn’t just pure luck but rather knowing how to play the game.” It is a man’s world and I will be the first to agree to that, but women all around a slowly starting to level out the playing field and in many cases, creating competition. You have to use what you have been given in order to get ahead. But I think there is a strong line of how you use it.

Not to get off topic, but what I am trying to point out is, while yes we might not agree with some of Khaleesi’s choices, we do have to admire what she is doing with the choices that were made for her and who she is becoming as a character throughout the series. She reminds me of what a lot of women in their twenties go through when it comes to figuring out who they are as a person and the type of life they want to lead. She also instills the determination that anything is possible and achievable and you don’t always need a man by your side to do it, just a couple of dragons xo

Over the last couple of months, I have become a big fan of listening to talk shows on the radio.  Maybe I like to listen to people’s problems so that I know how good I actually have it, or maybe I am just interested to see if other people are going through the same thing […]
