Ho! Ho! Ho! The holidays are quickly arriving and we are all beginning to sink into a “holidaze.” A holidaze (adj) is a state of mind that is reached when the holidays, especially Christmas, tend to get the best of people and change their state of mind. People who are holidazed have many outer body experiences and often portray behavior that is out of the norm ie: stealing someone’s parking spot and hitting granny as you do it, bitching about all the gifts you have to buy and then wrap, and repeating the phrase “I cannot wait till this is over” multiple times throughout the day. The holidays get the best of everyone.  As children we remember this time of year as “the best time of the year” because we did not have the added stress of getting gifts, cooking dinners and being merry… no we had the pleasure of enjoying the snow, wrapping presents and making a list for Santa.

Someone said to me, and took the words right of my mouth, that Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday. There aren’t any expectations, added stress, or over-the-top spending  involved, but rather it is about family and enjoying each others company. Christmas has turned into a nightmare for many, and to be honest, it is a holiday that I cannot wait to be over with. Now, I know I sound like a scrooge, but I just think that the retail industry has completely taken over this holiday. It has lost the meaning it once had, mainly for adults. In order to handle this “chaos” in the best ways possible, I have made a couple of changes to m7090f0f44ab66ab7c96bb24401a8a0d3y life during this time of year and these small changes have allowed to me to avoid becoming holidazed:

  • Avoiding malls, shopping centers, Wal-Marts/Targets at all costs- If I need to go, I go late at night. I have also chosen to visit my local CVS and pay a little bit more to avoid the headache of grabbing a can of shaving cream
  • Order online – The power of online shopping is amazing. I can actually customize my gift cards and add a little bit of personalization. Shipping is so quick during the holidays and directly to my door. Amazing
  • Start buying a head of time – I am the type of person to purchase gifts and just give them throughout the course of the year. When the holidays come, I find myself stuck with nothing to give my loved ones. This year, I started buying early and took care of a few family members before the snow even began to fall.
  • Set a budget – Know how much you want to spend on each person in your life and know early. This will make you more conscience about your spending earlier in the year, if you know you need to get Grandma that new iPad mini 😉
  • Don’t forget about your animals – And I am not just talking about gifts, because every animal loves presents too, but also remember that if you are gonna be out all day shopping, do them a favor and drop them off at doggie day care xo
